Man United hold encouraging talks with Adrien Rabiot

Man United’s move for Adrien Rabiot seems to be progressing nicely.

Erik ten Hag is probably feeling under the cosh already at Manchester United, following an opening day horror show coupled with the poor transfer business currently being conducted by the club.

A move for Frenkie de Jong is absolutely no further on, with the Dutch midfielder widely regarded as the Reds’ number one target for the summer window.

Over the last couple of days, Adrien Rabiot’s name is one that’s being consistently linked with a Reds switch. Before we begin, we’re led to believe that this move is entirely separate to the De Jong transfer, rather than the French midfielder being an alternative to the Barcelona man.

The latest information in this saga comes from journalist Romeo Agresti, who works for Goal Italy.

Apparently, United have had ‘positive contact’ with the entourage of Rabiot about the possibility of a move to the Theatre of Dreams for the 27-year-old. To reiterate, there is still no agreement in place, though the dialogue is ‘developing positively’.

To us, it suggests that this transfer is becoming increasingly likely to happen. Make of that what you will.

Rabiot is a weird one. Nobody can deny his talent, though his attitude and application has come into question before. While his mother (and agent) is believed to be pretty tough to deal with from time to time.

At this stage though, United will do anything to try and upgrade their midfield. Scott McTominay and Fred were absolutely horrendous on Sunday and I’d watch anyone else before I have to watch them two try and perform at a decent level again.

What I am fairly clear on is that Rabiot isn’t a long-term answer. Instead, he feels like a quick fix.
