Man United hold a long-standing interest in free agent central midfielder, Adrien Rabiot.
Manchester United have fixed their defensive and striker issues this summer. Now, attention turns to addressing the midfield. The Old Trafford side are looking to add some extra energy to the middle of the park, though with money being somewhat tight, it could prove difficult.
Among the names consistently linked with filling that void is Adrien Rabiot. The French midfielder, who the Reds have been a constant fan of under Erik ten Hag, is now a free agent.
Now, The Athletic have provided an update on that front, claiming United have a ‘long-standing interest’ in signing the 29-year-old midfielder. The Reds have tried to move for the Rabiot signing before, in each of the last two windows under Ten Hag to be precise.
It’s stated that as of right now, nothing is advancing regarding a potential arrival for the midfielder.
Rabiot strikes me as the type of player who will go to the highest bidder. It’s going to take a huge weekly wage to convince the World Cup winner to make the move to Manchester. At this stage of his career, would that be a wise way to spend money?
Yes, he’s a talented player, but he’s after one final payday before his career is on a downward trajectory. I’m not convinced he wants a move to Old Trafford, either, as he had opportunities to make that switch in each of the last two years.
I’d personally prefer to see a move for Manuel Ugarte made. While The Athletic believe Martin Zubamendi is a possibility, along with Sofyan Amrabat.
