Manchester United Football Club managed to tie Odion Ighalo down to a loan extension, meaning he’ll remain at Old Trafford until at least January 2021.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s long-term plan, though, has been to focus on youth and make this squad a younger one. Ighalo, sadly, is trending in the wrong direction where age is concerned, thus he isn’t the permanent solution…
Enter, Lautaro Martinez. On Sunday, Marca, translated by Sport Witness, offered us another update in regards to the Argentine’s future…
Apparently, United have ‘held a meeting’ presumably with the player’s representatives, over the possibility of signing the 22-year-old striker. That’s interesting because his proposed transfer to FC Barcelona is apparently ‘wobbling’.
That’s because Barcelona are apparently asking players to take a pay-cut amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Obviously, splashing a large amount of money to make a new signing just wouldn’t sit well with the dressing room…

Martinez has been lighting up the Serie A over the last twelve months or so, as he continues to get better as a footballer. He wouldn’t be cheap, but make no mistake about it, the Argentine would significantly improve any playing squad in world football.
He fits the player profile that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has shown a preference towards, though beating out competition from Barca and Real Madrid is far easier said than done.
A move this summer feels unlikely due to Ighalo’s presence, but if he’s available come 2021’s summer, maybe a deal could be done…
