Man United are looking at Newcastle United goalkeeper, Martin Dubravka, as a possible option.
There’s no doubt that when the Old Trafford club chose to let Dean Henderson leave, the need to bring in another goalkeeper came to the fore.
I like Tom Heaton, but whether he’s good enough to back up (and challenge) David de Gea for starts is another matter entirely.
Several names have been linked with coming in and filling that void. Kevin Trapp the latest, with the Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper absolutely someone who could come in and do a stunning job. Sadly that deal pursuit to have ended.
According to the Daily Mail, United now have eyes on another; Martin Dubravka.
Apparently, United have ‘held talks’ with the club over potentially signing the 33-year-old.
Dubravka missed Newcastle United’s EFL Cup tie with an illness. Whether that’s just unfortunate timing, pure coincidence or something more, remains to be seen…
The Daily Mail claim that Dubravka would provide competition for starts, while his Premier League experience also wouldn’t go amiss. More than anything, the Slovakia international is far more comfortable with the ball at feet.
The report also claims that interest in Trapp has cooled, after a £21million asking price was placed on the German’s head by Eintracht Frankfurt.
Dubravka has been pushed out at Newcastle by Nick Pope, meaning the experienced shot-stopper may well be available for purchase.
Again, this is only a quick fix to a problem that’s going to remain for this season, at least. I suspect fans’ patience will gradually wear thin with De Gea, who continues to show his deficiencies when playing out from the back.
Maybe there’s still a way back for Dean Henderson…?
