Man United will hope to secure the signature of Adrien Rabiot over the next seven days.
It goes without saying, Manchester United need some considerable upgrades in midfield. The Old Trafford club are still plodding on with the Fred and Scott McTominay combination, which has often blown hot and cold over the last few years.
Frenkie de Jong is the dream target, though that deal remains stagnant. You get the feeling this one will drag on and on until the end of the summer. Hence, the Reds have to have a contingency plan in place.
Enter, Adrien Rabiot.
The Frenchman’s proposed move to United has been talked up pretty heavily over the last week, though I personally remain unconvinced as to whether this would be a good acquisition.
They state that United are hoping to seal the signature of the 27-year-old ‘within the next week’, with the club seemingly putting a timeframe on when this deal must be done by.
Presumably, the club don’t want to waste any more time on players who aren’t fully committed to the club. So, United are going to give themselves all of the weekend, plus the majority of next week, before looking at other potential options to fill that gaping hole in midfield.
United have a little under three weeks left to do their business. Time is rapidly running out. Midfield isn’t the only area that needs to be addressed either, and this club seems incapable of moving for multiple targets at once.
I have to be honest, I’m fearing the worst about this window as a whole…
