Man United believe Amad could have what it takes to become a first-team regular upon the end of his Sunderland loan.
Over the years, Manchester United have made a concerted effort to sign some of the best emerging talents from all over the world.
Hannibal, Alvaro Fernandez, Alejandro Garnacho all fall into that bracket – as does Amad.
Amad is perhaps the most expensive purchase of a young player in football history. He’s set to cost way in excess of £30million should all the various clauses within the terms of his purchase be met.
Thus far, it’s safe to say he’s been fairly pedestrian, failing to force his way into Erik ten Hag’s plans during pre-season.
A loan move to Sunderland started slowly, though the Ivory Coast international has been far better of late. Amad has scored three times in his last five games, as he has come to terms with Championship level football for Sunderland.
Now, United are ‘hopeful’ that the 20-year-old can establish himself as a first-team regular after he returns from this current loan spell. That’s according to the Manchester Evening News.
A well-placed source told the MEN that Amad needed a run of 10 games to truly show his worth. He’s now started five games in a row, often looking like the best player on the field during those matches.
Suddenly, Amad is looking every bit like a player who can go all the way to the top. It’s easy to forget that he’s still so young and not everyone develops at the same pace. He just needed a little more time.
Whether he can break into the United setup is another question entirely. It’s not going to be easy for Amad, though this run at Sunderland will no doubt help his confidence levels.
United will remain patient with Amad, largely due to the huge transfer fee.
