Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is hoping for a breakthrough in the Red Devils’ pursuit of Nemanja Matic. That’s according to The Telegraph, with the Old Trafford club looking to bolster their squad before the season starts on August 13th against West Ham.
United have been crying out for a new midfielder to bring more balance to the team, and that has been the case for years now. Outside of Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba, we literally have nothing else in the way of top talent in such a key area of the field, and at times, it is frustrating to watch.
Matic, 29, would bring some much-needed experience to the table. He’s a player who doesn’t mind doing the dirty work and he’ll happily sit in front of the back four and offer them some extra protection.
Mourinho knows him well from their time together at Stamford Bridge with Chelsea, and the midfielder is a winner. During his three-and-a-half seasons in England, he has won two Premier League titles which is a great return.
That should mean he can fit seamlessly into the squad, and he’ll certainly make our team much better from day one. With United now back in the country following their pre-season tour of the United States, things should hopefully begin to speed up.
