Man United could make a move for John McGinn this summer.
It goes without saying, Manchester United are struggling mightily when it comes to controlling games. That’s solely down to the midfielders to set the tempo.
The likes of Scott McTominay, Fred and Nemanja Matic coast through games far too often. They’re too easily overrun and outfought – hence why this United team are always on the backfoot.
As things stand, the only way to stop that is by making new signings in that area of the pitch. It’s hard to buy in the mid-season window but I’d push hard and try and bring someone in if at all possible.
Summer moves are far more likely, with the Red Devils already planning their moves – despite not knowing who’ll be in charge of this squad next season.
One name now linked with a potential Old Trafford switch is John McGinn. The latest story comes from The Telegraph.
They say that United have shortlisted the 27-year-old as a potential summer acquisition.
Midfield has been identified as a ‘priority area’ to address when the summer rolls around, with McGinn emerging as one of the options under consideration for the 20-time Premier League champions.
Furthermore, McGinn’s emergence as a dressing room leader has caught the eye of Sir Alex Ferguson and Darren Fletcher. Both of whom have been long-term admirers of their fellow Scot.
McGinn is viewed as a ‘dominant’ midfielder with genuine leadership qualities, with those traits appealing to United. That’s because the club believe the current squad lacks any natural leaders.
In terms of fee, it’s expected McGinn’s value sits at around £40million. Understandably, Villa would be reluctant to part ways with one of their leading players since their Premier League return.
United need to sign a top-class midfielder. McGinn would be an upgrade but does he fit the profile of someone who can single-handedly turn our fortunes around in that area of the field? I’m not so sure, but it does feel like a risk worth taking.
