Manchester United Football Club have cooled their interest in signing a left-back during the January transfer window, following some stunning displays from Luke Shaw.
That’s what the Manchester Evening News says, although the report adds that Jose Mourinho has identified Alex Sandro as the preferred option should the self-proclaimed Special One change his mind when the summer rolls around.
Sandro is contracted with Juventus until 2020 meaning he’d cost a hefty sum, but as for right now, it makes huge sense to stick with Shaw. The young Englishman is arguably in the best form he’s ever been in since moving to Old Trafford and he’s still an immensely talented individual.
Mourinho now has an extra four months to make a decision on the Southampton academy graduate and I’m glad that he’s being given every opportunity to prove his worth.
I just hope that Shaw’s injuries are now behind him and he can focus solely on his football. He’s comfortably the best left-back the club has on their books and if he can stay off the treatment table from now until the end of the season, I wouldn’t bet against Mourinho refusing to sign a left-back over the summer.
