Man United identify top transfer target, will have to pay record fee: report

Ole Gunnar Solsjaer’s summer starts now. The Baby Faced Assassin will have to be backed heavily by the Glazer family, with Manchester United risking further decline if the rot isn’t stopped.

The transfer window isn’t even officially open yet but United are already being linked to every name under the sun. The latest player to be added to that list is Napoli centre-half, Kalidou Koulibaly.

According to The Mirror, the Red Devils have made the Senegal international their number one priority. Understandably, United are ‘desperate’ to bolster a defence that shipped 55 Premier League goals this season, although Koulibaly wouldn’t come cheap.

Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti is understandably keen to keep ahold of Koulibaly, whom he believes is the best centre-half in the world worth in excess of £130million – meaning United would have to smash the world record transfer fee for a defender.

Would he be worth it? Probably. Not only is Koulibaly a world-class defender but he’s an on-field leader. I look at that squad and I’m struggling to see that vocal, Roy Keane-eqsue figure who is willing to baulk orders at others in an effort to turn things around. That’s an underrated commodity and one we’re seriously lacking in at this point in time.

I know it’s not the glamour, goal-scoring signing, but it’s a necessary one. You look at Virgil van Dijk’s move to Liverpool. He has completely transformed their future and if United signed Koulibaly he could do likewise.
