Man United in ‘advanced negotiations’ to sign Lisandro Martinez

Man United are deep in discussions with Ajax over the signing of Lisandro Martinez.

Manchester United have suddenly jolted into action this week. After a relatively slow start to the transfer window, the Old Trafford club are now pushing hard to bring in new faces.

Frenkie de Jong and Tyrell Malacia deals seem close, while the Reds still remain in pursuit of Christian Eriksen.

Another name the 20-time Premier League champions have been linked with is Lisandro Martinez. The last we heard that those talks were ‘very positive’.

This morning, the usually reliable Athletic have given us their latest information. Again, it feels like United’s potential move for Martinez is moving in the right direction.

They’re claiming that United are now in ‘advanced negotiations’ with Ajax over the possible acquisition of the centre-half. On top of that, Erik ten Hag wants the 24-year-old to follow him to Manchester this summer.

Sources say that Arsenal hold an interest in Martinez, though United are now favourites in the race, feeling they have ‘edged ahead’.

Talks are set to continue over the weekend as the two clubs look to agree on a fee, though the Eredivisie club want more money as things stand.

Again, it comes back to Ten Hag feeling comfortable with the players he’s working with. The Dutchman worked with the Argentine Martinez at Ajax last season, with the defender a perfect fit for the Ten Hag system.

I will admit one slight concern about Martinez’s height. Standing at just 5’8, playing centre-back in the physical Premier League, feels like an uphill battle.

Perhaps Martinez will turn into the new Daley Blind for us in a sense, as the defender is excellent with the ball at his feet.
