Man United have been in contact with Atletico Madrid in regards to potentially signing Saul Niguez.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United squad is starting to take shape. Slowly but surely, the Baby Faced Assassin is doing a wonderful job assembling a quality group of players.
There are still some holes in the squad, with right-back and midfield being identified as the next areas where the Old Trafford club could possibly invest.
Amongst the names that keep popping up as a potential midfield target is Saul Niguez.
Now, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, United have been in contact with the agent over the signing of the classy 26-year-old. What’s interesting is that United consider Saul as ‘one of the biggest opportunities’ in the transfer market.
Furthermore, £38m could get the deal done, which is an absolute bargain in this day and age.
“Manchester United are among the clubs that have been in contact with Saul Niguez’s agent,” Romano told The United Stand.
“They have an interest in the player and consider him ‘one of the biggest opportunities on the market’.
“€40-45m will get a deal done, no bid yet.”
We need to address the elephant in the room here. I can only see United moving for Saul if a certain Paul Pogba decides to leave. I’ll be honest, that still feels like a very realistic possibility.
After all, United losing Pogba for free once was bad, but twice? Well, that definitely won’t reflect well on the powers that be.
Perhaps United just see this as an opportunity that’s too good to pass up, kind of like Raphael Varane who was also a bargain.
Acquiring a player of Saul’s calibre for less than £40million would be an insane piece of business. However, you’d imagine the Old Trafford club would have to sell before they buy any more players this summer.
