Man United are said to be in discussions with Napoli over the sale of Scott McTominay.
Manchester United are believed to be in a situation where they have to sell before they can buy. Fringe players like Jadon Sancho, Christian Eriksen and Scott McTominay are the big names that could be sold before the close of play next week.
The Scotland international McTominay finds himself in an intriguing situation. Despite his 10-goal haul last term, the general consensus is that he can leave if the price is right. So far, that valuation, which is believed to be around £25-30m, hasn’t been met.
Journalist Alfredo Pedulla has provided an update on McTominay, who is now attracting interest from Serie A side Napoli.
He says that United and the Naples club are in ‘lively’ negotiations over McTominay, with contacts between the two sides still taking place.
Their manager’ Antonio Conte, ‘insists’ that his club sign the Reds man during this transfer window. Though for now, the Italian continues to wait.

Esclusiva: #McTominay–#Napoli, trattativa viva, altri contatti oggi. Si discute sui bonus, le uscite di #Folorunsho e #Gaetano possono dare interiore impulso. #Conte insiste, lui per ora continua ad aspettare il #Napoli

McTominay may find minutes harder to come by this summer, particularly if Mason Mount stays fit and Manuel Ugarte is signed. Perhaps a move away does make sense.
It’s all about finding the right situation for a player who has never let United down. McTominay shouldn’t be forced out at all costs, rather working with the midfielder to come to an agreement which he is 100% happy with.
At the end of the day, if he stays, it isn’t the worst thing in the world, though you do get the feeling that Ten Hag would like to move in a different direction if the price is right, allowing the gaffer to bring in someone different to replace the Scotland man.
