Man United are said to be in talks with Antony’s representatives over a potential summer move.
As of now, there has been no concrete movement yet in terms of incoming signings at Manchester United.
It goes without saying, the Red Devils need reinforcements in a major way this summer. For Erik ten Hag, a good idea will be to surround himself with players he’s familiar with – hence why the Old Trafford club have been linked with a whole host of Ajax players.
Winger Antony was talked up as a potential United target earlier on in the window. I guess when you look at United’s lack of firepower, it’s a move that would make sense.
Now, Goal journalist Raul Moura has another update for us in regards to United’s Antony pursuit.
Apparently, United are in negotiations with the agent of the 22-year-old attacker, who enjoyed a brilliant 2021/22 campaign under Erik ten Hag.
According to Goal’s ‘investigation’, Antony’s ‘staff’ are already in Europe. The pursuit of the trip is to ‘accelerate’ the negotiations between United and the Brazilian over the possible deal.
With the agent now on European soil, ‘the tendency is that Antony’s future will be defined in the coming days’, Moura writes. He also states that the eventual transfer fee will be somewhere around the £52m mark.
It’s thought that United have a good relationship with the Ajax board due to the business the two clubs have done recently, with Antony the player who has ‘stood out’ to Ten Hag in regards to a player who’d fit in at Old Trafford.
At the end of the day, our manager has worked with Antony day-in-day-out for the last nine months. Ten Hag knows his strengths and weaknesses better than anyone. Though I’d imagine he’d need time to settle into life in Manchester.
