Man United in open negotiation to sign Raul de Tomas

Man United are apparently in talks with Raul de Tomas over a possible transfer.

There can be no doubt about it, Manchester United absolutely need to acquire another centre-forward during this transfer window – particularly if Cristiano Ronaldo gets his wish to leave.

Marko Arnautovic and Benjamin Sesko are just two of the many names that have fallen by the wayside. Over the last 24 hours, a fresh face has been thrown into the mix; Raul de Tomas.

The Spanish striker currently plies his trade for La Liga side Espanyol. Though apparently, United are looking at potentially moving for the forward.

It’s @Partizadocope with the bold claim. They state that United are already in ‘open negotiation’ to sign the 27-year-old.

Apparently, the forward is one of United’s potential options to fill the striker void, though COPE suggests he’s ‘not the only one’.

`According to the claim, De Tomas could cost around £25m if United’s ‘interest advances’, which is relatively reasonable for a player who should be in his prime.

De Tomas enjoyed an excellent 2021/22 campaign, scoring 17 goals in 34 La Liga appearances. That sort of strike rate would be better than any single United player managed (outside of Ronaldo) last season.

In terms of depth, De Tomas feels like someone who could improve the overall outlook of the current United squad. However, is he going to be someone who can regularly start in a side with genuine trophy aspirations? I’m not so sure.

This feels like a short-term fix for a long-term problem, with United now looking pretty desperate in the transfer market. Again, I don’t doubt De Tomas’ talent. I just don’t see him being someone who can become a focal point in a Reds side who are trying to get back to the top.

Do you think Raul de Tomas would be a good signing for Man United? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
