Manchester United Football Club are being linked with a deal to sign Fiorentina centre-back, Nikola Milenkovic.
This isn’t the first time the Red Devils have been linked with Milenkovic. In fact, we first covered these stories back in October 2018, almost two-and-a-half years ago…
Now, the Reds are being mentioned in the same sentence as Milenkovic again. The story comes from La Repubblica, relayed by Calciomercato.it and translated by Sport Witness.
Apparently, United are said to be in ‘pole position’ to sign the 23-year-old. With the Old Trafford club now ahead of Juventus, Inter Milan and AC Milan in the chase.
It’s claimed Milenkovic is likely to make a Premier League move, while his next destination ‘seems to be in English colours’.
The good news for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer here is that Fiorentina are running out of time to protect their asset. Milenkovic’s current deal expires in summer 2022. The longer this goes on, the cheaper the Serbian will be.
As Sport Witness state, this certainly feels like a transfer rumour to keep an eye on over the summer. However, there are a few factors that need to be considered…
Manchester United in for another centre-back?
First and foremost, we need to think about Eric Bailly’s fitness. If the Ivorian can prove himself from now until the season’s end, then do we really need to go out there and add another centre-back?
You also have to consider Teden Mengi’s loan move. This is someone who is tipped to be the future of this club, alongside Axel Tuanzebe. Both probably haven’t developed as quickly as Solskjaer would have liked, but their talent is undeniable.
The bottom line is this. We have to find the perfect, long-term partner for Harry Maguire. Our captain is having a fantastic season and long may that continue. If United think Milenkovic is that guy, then who are we to argue?
