Man United are once again being linked with a move to sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
We’ve been here before. Numerous times. No doubt we’ll be here again until this transfer actually happens, but here we go…
Manchester United and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic rumours have been going on since the David Moyes days. The Serbian midfielder remains a Lazio player for now. Just like he has done each and every time we’ve been here. That said, we wouldn’t be doing our job properly if we didn’t bring you the latest.
The claim comes from Il Messaggero, with the translation coming via the Manchester Evening News in their live blog. Apparently, United are named as the club in ‘pole position’ to sign the 26-year-old defensive midfielder.
As has always been the case, Milinkovic-Savic yet again comes with a fairly hefty price tag. That’s due to the fact he’s under contract until 2024 with Lazio under no pressure whatsoever to sell – unless the fee is right.
My stance on Milinkovic-Savic hasn’t changed once. I’m sure he’s an excellent player, though there must be a reason why the top clubs continue to turn down making a move for the Serbian.
That said, United are desperate to bring in some genuine quality in that defensive midfield position. Milinkovic-Savic would be a considerable upgrade on what we have in that area of the pitch. It all depends on just how badly the Red Devils want to sign the 26-year-old – or will they look elsewhere once again?
For us, the ideal choice would be someone with Premier League experience. If you’re already going to spend massive amounts of cash, why not go for Declan Rice? He’s younger, a player United like and he knows his way around an English football field.
