Man United are seemingly still intent on making Mauricio Pochettino their new manager.
Ralf Rangnick is only here in the interim. The German will remain in charge until the summer. He’ll stay on in a consultancy role afterwards. Who knows, he may actually have a say on who the new manager is…?
Throughout the constant hiring and firing of managers at Manchester United of late, one name has continued to be linked; Mauricio Pochettino.
It’s claimed that United are in ‘regular contact’ with the Argentine. And that has been the case since November. It’s also made clear that Pochettino isn’t the only manager on United’s radar, though, with Erik ten Hag also under consideration.
Le Parisien do not mince their words. They reckon that United ‘still dream’ of appointing the 49-year-old manager Pochettino, though Rangnick himself does prefer a move for Ten Hag.
The report adds that Pochettino has ‘secretly and discreetly’ been maintaining contact with United ‘in case he manages to free himself from his Paris Saint-Germain contract next summer’.
On paper, Poch looks like someone who’d be the ideal fit for the Old Trafford club. He has Premier League experience, is a big believer in youth and loves developing homegrown talent.
The one blot on the Argentine’s resume is a lack of a major trophy in this country. However, he will likely finish this season with a Ligue 1 title under his belt – which will definitely help in regards to his own confidence.
For me, this would be a top-class hire if we could somehow pull it off.
