Manchester United Football Club are in dire need of a major overhaul. It’s going to take Ole Gunnar Solskjaer time to undertake such work, the club have to give the manager that.
The Reds need to strengthen in practically every area on the field – including left-back despite Luke Shaw scooping up both major awards at the POTY ceremony a couple of weeks ago.
Today, a new name has been thrown into the ring; left-back Junior Firpo from Real Betis. According to Spanish media outlet AS, United are ‘in discussions’ with the La Liga club about signing the 22-year-old.
Apparently, Firpo has also been attracting interest from Real Madrid, while United are ready to pay £22-26.5m to sign the Spain U21 international.
Although Firpo is extremely talented, you have to worry about his injury record. I always say that regular availability is a trait that’s massively underrated, and adding another player to the squad who is that way inclined just doesn’t seem like a good idea.
Personally, I’d much prefer to see money invested into other areas of the squad first, because we have both the aforementioned Shaw and Ashley Young who can start as left-backs.
