Man United are apparently in conversations over the transfer of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
It’s probably a given that Manchester United are set to invest in their midfield area this summer. After all, Paul Pogba is on his way out, while the likes of Fred and Scott McTominay continue to display inconsistent form.
No doubt the board, along with Ralf Rangnick and Erik ten Hag, are already in conversation about who they’d like to target. Well this morning, one familiar name has emerged as an option; Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
It’s not a summer transfer window without being linked with a move for the Serbia international. It’s happened every summer for the last half-decade – and I’d imagine it’ll continue in this manner until Milinkovic-Savic eventually moves on from the Serie A outfit.
This time around, it’s Ekrem Konur with the scoop. He says that United are ‘in talks’ with Lazio over the transfer of the 27-year-old midfielder – presumably with a view to a move happening this summer.
There’s not really much else we can say on the potential Milinkovic-Savic move that we haven’t said already.
It does go without saying that he’d be an upgrade on our current options, though, as we look to find some consistency in an area of the field that is arguably the most important. But is he a guaranteed success? I’d say not.
Milinkovic-Savic has been a mainstay for club and country for years. Though I do worry about why no other ‘big club’ have acquired him already. I get that the transfer fee would be expensive, but if he’s really an elite level player, why hasn’t any buying side met Lazio’s demands so far?
As a desperate fan first and foremost, it’s a gamble I’d still make given our current situation, but I wouldn’t expect Milinkovic-Savic to make us instant trophy contenders…
