Manchester United are in talks with Juventus over the possible transfer of Matteo Darmian.
That’s according to ESPN, although the clubs are yet to agree a fee. The Old Lady want to bring Darmian back to the Serie A, following a three-year stint in England.
Darmian, 28, only started five Premier League games this term, probably why Jose Mourinho would be keen on letting him leave Old Trafford; particularly if the Red Devils can recoup the £12.7million they paid for him back in 2015.
The fact that Juventus are eying a move for the Italy international says a lot about his abilities. He did start well at United under Louis van Gaal, but over time, his performances have just gotten worse.
Sometimes, deals work out in favour of all parties; this seems like the case here. United are getting an unwanted player off their books, Darmian will get regular playing time, while Juventus are getting a good footballer.
Then comes the task of replacing him. The fact that Darmian could play on both the left and right-hand sides was a big bonus, and that probably backs up United’s interest in Diogo Dalot – who can also be deployed in either full-back slot.
