Man United are seemingly still amongst the frontrunners when it comes to signing Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka has certainly improved as the season has wore on, with an injury to Diogo Dalot definitely helping out the English right-back.
In the long term, Erik ten Hag’s preference seems to be moving away from Wan-Bissaka and bringing someone else in. The name that often pops up is Denzel Dumfries.
The Inter Milan right-back, a countryman of Ten Hag, is someone who’d certainly fit the bill. He’s an excellent player on both sides of the ball, while fitting this formation and system nicely.
Over the weekend, Sport Witness ran a story about Dumfries, with their information coming from Tuttosport, relayed by L’Interista.
They say that United are the club ‘in the front row’ for the signing of the 26-year-old, with the Italian side having also found their replacement for Dumfries.
Tuttosport apparently state that Premier League clubs are consistently eyeing Dumfries, and have been for the last eighteen months. United, seemingly, are at the front of that queue.
Furthermore, a deal for Dumfries is there to be done, with Inter putting the Dutchman’s name on their list of potential outgoings this coming summer.
Inter have already eyed Tajon Buchanan as a replacement for Dumfries, with the Serie A side looking to make at least £50m from the sale of the right-sided defender.
Whether United are keen on spending that much to sign Dumfries remains to be seen, though Inter will wait for the ‘right offer’ before cashing in.
Dumfries is someone who would represent an upgrade in a key position for United, with Ten Hag clearly trying to build that strength in depth which is required to compete on all fronts.
