Man United ‘in the race’ to sign Celtic midfielder Daniel Kelly

Man United are in competition to acquire Celtic midfielder, Daniel Kelly.

Manchester United have always worked better when signing younger players and giving these guys a chance to shine at the highest level, rather than acquiring the ready-made footballer.

Erik ten Hag’s hand was forced in that sense, with the Dutchman giving Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho their chances, largely due to injuries decimating the squad.

However, it’s an area that United should look to exploit more – in our humble opinion anyway…

Today’s transfer rumour follows that train of thought, as United are apparently keen on acquiring Celtic’s Daniel Kelly.

It’s the Daily Record with the scoop, as they ran the story over the weekend. Apaprently, United are said to be ‘in the race’ to sign the 18-year-old star midfielder, though they face stiff competition from Premier League rivals, Tottenham Hotspur.

Ange Postecoglu knows Kelly from their time together at Celtic Park, which could give the London club the edge in the chase for his signature.

When July rolls around, Kelly will be entering into the final six months of his contract so they’ll be no transfer fee for his signature. Instead, the club he goes to will have to pay a compensatory figure to Celtic – assuming he chooses to leave.

As things stand, Kelly is seemingly keen on remaining with his boyhood club, at least for the time being, though the lure of earning a significantly higher wage elsewhere may eventually prove too great to say no to.

There can be no doubt that United should be doing all they can to sign the highly-rated Kelly, though it seems like it will not be easy to prise him away from Scotland at this current moment in time.
