Man United ‘inching closer’ to sealing Raphael Varane deal: report

A move for Man United to sign Raphael Varane is seemingly closer than ever before.

Although Jadon Sancho isn’t officially a Red Devil yet, the move is all but done. Then, for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, it became about pressing ahead with signing other targets.

It looks as if centre-half is now the Baby Faced Assassin’s biggest need. Raphael Varane has often been touted as the dream transfer target.

I’ll be honest, I thought United had nigh-on no chance at making a deal for the Frenchman happen. Well, it looks as though I couldn’t have been more wrong.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United are ‘inching closer every day’, towards sealing a deal to sign the 28-year-old.

Apparently, discussions over personal terms have been ‘productive’ while the player himself ‘expects’ to join the Reds this summer.

Furthermore, there is ‘optimism’ that United could complete a deal to sign Varane at the end of the month, with Varane’s preference to head straight to Manchester – rather than returning to Madrid.

Varane is currently on holiday and it looks as though he’s eager to begin his pre-season with United, which is definitely a positive sign.

You’d hope that agreeing on a fee for a player who has one year left on his current deal would be no issue for the Old Trafford club – and what an addition to the squad this would be.

Finding the right partner for Harry Maguire is the key right now. Varane definitely feels like the perfect fit on paper. It would be a signing that’d send a message out to our title rivals if it happens, though I’d still like to see a top-class defensive midfielder added if at all possible.
