Man United are still keen on signing FC Barcelona winger, Ousmane Dembele.
We’ve been here before. Manchester United links to Ousmane Dembele are certainly long-standing and that viewpoint from the Red Devils doesn’t look like changing anytime soon.
This time around, the story comes from Catalan media outlet Sport, who write that United have ‘increased their interest’ in the 23-year-old winger.
Apparently, the Reds have remained in touch with Dembele’s entourage, while also having ‘communicated their plan’ to the La Liga giants.
Last summer, Manchester United wanted to sign Dembele on a loan deal with an option to buy, before talks would break down.
In terms of the ins and outs of the deal, the Reds are prepared to either offer Barcelona a fee for Dembele this summer – or wait until he becomes a free agent in the summer of 2022.
There is a potential problem, though, with Barca boss, Ronald Koeman, impressed with Dembele. The Dutchman considers the French winger a major part of his long-term plans.
Would Dembele be a good fit?
Well, he’s a considerable improvement on what we currently have in that right-wing slot. Dembele is direct, quick, two-footed and a real team-player. However, question marks can still be raised abut his fitness.
This is someone who has struggled to stay fit season-in-season-out. Do we really believe that is going to suddenly change if he moves clubs?
At this point, United need someone who can fill that void week-in-week-out. As talented as Dembele is, I’m not sure he’s that guy. I sound like a broken recordhere but I’d still much prefer to see us move for Jadon Sancho…
