Man United have made a fresh bid for Lisandro Martinez, improving their offer for the Argentine.
Just the one signing has been made by Manchester United thus far, in the form of Tyrell Malacia.
Erik ten Hag’s plan seems pretty clear; surround himself with familiarity and comfort.
Given all the links to current Ajax players, I’m somewhat surprised that United haven’t actually signed one yet. As things stand, you get the feeling Lisandro Martinez is the most likely one to actually happen. We’ve consistently been linked with a move for the Argentine since the Jurrien Timber deal became dead in the water.
Well, there has been another update provided in regards to United’s pursuit of Martinez. It comes from De Telegraaf journalist, Mike Verweij.
He states that United have increased their bid to sign the 24-year-old. The new offer is a package totalling £42.3m, including add-ons and bonuses (€50m).
Martinez, who is also being chased by Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, is attracting pretty serious interest this summer following a stellar 2021/22 season.
You get the feeling that the player himself would prefer a move to Old Trafford, largely due to the Ten Hag connection.
Martinez has thrived in Ten Hag’s possession-based system over the last couple of years, also forcing his way into the senior Argentina squad in the process. Simply put, this young man can play.
The one concern I have is the height. Martinez stands at 5ft 9in. Obviously, that’s pretty small for the physical Premier League – though I’m keen to give him an opportunity to prove us all wrong before making final judgement.
I guess Ten Hag wouldn’t be making the move if he didn’t think Martinez could adjust to life in England.
