Man United increasingly confident of signing Frenkie de Jong

Man United believe they have a genuine shot at bringing Frenkie de Jong to Old Trafford this summer.

The Frenkie de Jong stories are now coming thick and fast, which leads me to believe there could actually be some truth to them.

The latest report was covered by ourselves just this morning, which claimed the Old Trafford club had actually bid for De Jong. Albeit, that £42.5m offer appears a little on the low side.

I’m still a little concerned about whether De Jong actually wants to make the move to Manchester this summer, but Erik ten Hag is seemingly still intent on pushing ahead.

The latest claim comes from talkSPORT. In a breaking news story, they claim that United are ‘increasingly confident’ of signing the midfielder this summer. To further add to that, they’re hoping to complete a deal for the 25-year-old ‘swiftly’.

Perhaps the Reds have had some sort of communication from De Jong’s side that a deal is genuinely possible, most likely due to Barca’s financial issues.

With Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic both departing, the need for United to bring in a top-tier midfielder is 100% there. De Jong absolutely falls into that bracket.

If any manager can get the absolute maximum out of De Jong, it’d be Ten Hag. The pair enjoyed success together at Ajax, reaching a Champions League semi-final before that side was broken up due to their performances.

Again, though, I have concerns about whether De Jong is interested in playing for the Manchester United badge. If he’s making the move purely for the money, I fear it could end just as badly as the Pogba transfer has.

Would a Man United move for Frenkie de Jong make sense? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
