In the meantime, planning for the transfer window will be undoubtedly underway. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have his transfer targets, make no mistake about that.
A name that is popping up with increasing regularity is Atletico Madrid midfielder, Saul Niguez. The Spaniard, who has 19 caps for his country, is enjoying another decent season under Diego Simeone.
However, a report from Sunday’s Daily Star states that United are growing ‘increasingly confident’ of signing the classy 25-year-old in a club-record deal.
Apparently, said deal would be worth an eyewatering £135million. Saul would come in as a replacement for the outbound Paul Pogba, with United immediately plugging the hole that would be left by the Frenchman.
Furthermore, Real Madrid are ready to pay Pogba’s £100m asking price, which given the fact that the midfielder only has one year (plus an extra twelve-months extension which is yet to be triggered), is a pretty decent fee.
I still wouldn’t be too keen on paying that monumental amount of money to sign Saul, though. Yes, he’s a brilliant player but that just seems a little overkill.
The Reds must be pretty keen, mind, having sent scouts to watch Saul play a crucial role in Atletico Madrid’s victory over Liverpool at Anfield earlier on this month…
