Man United initiate contact over Victor Osimhen signing

Man United have reached out to Napoli about potentially signing Victor Osimhen this summer.

Erik ten Hag will no doubt have been watching on with an exasperated look as Brighton & Hove Albion made it four at the weekend. The Dutchman has a truly massive job on his hands. There’s simply no getting away from that.

Money will have to be spent. Large amounts of it, too, given how many players are expected to leave for free this summer.

One name who has been linked with increasing intensity over the last few weeks is Victor Osimhen. The winger, from Nigeria, currently plies his trade for Napoli in Serie A.

Yesterday, Corriere dello Sport (Monday print edition) gave us another update. Thanks must go to Sport Witness for the translation.

They state that Osimhen is a much-wanted player as we enter the summer, with the Red Devils showing the most interest.

It’s being claimed that United have now initiated contact with Napoli about signing the 23-year-od, who has 23 goal contributions in 30 matches this term.

However, Osimhen will not come cheaply. United have been told Napoli wants £94m (€110m) to let their star forward leave. However, that price is negotiable.

This would no doubt take a huge chunk out of Ten Hag’s transfer budget if the move was made – though you cannot help but feel big money is going to have to be spent on an attacker of some sort this summer. Simply put, Cristiano Ronaldo needs a little bit of help…

As Sport Witness point out, Napoli are pretty tough negotiators when it comes to selling, with Kalidou Koulibaly another name who has often been linked with a United switch. The Serie A club do tend to dig their heels in, so this one will not be a straightforward signing.

I’m not going to sit here and claim that Osimhen would be a game-changing signing. In fact, I’m not particularly well-versed in regards to what he’d bring to the table. However, we have to trust Ten Hag (assuming he’s the one pushing to sign Osimhen).

Would a Man United move for Victor Osimhen make sense? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
