Manchester United’s defensive struggles have been horrifically evident recently, which only further explains why Jose Mourinho wanted to bring in at least one new centre-half.
The good thing about football? There is always an opportunity to right the wrongs, and Edward Woodward has a massive chance with the January transfer window looming.
Now, according to the Manchester Evening News, United have been installed as the bookmakers favourite to be Kalidou Koulibaly’s next club.
Apparently, the Old Trafford side are 10/1 favourites to acquire the man from Senegal in January, ahead of the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal.
There is no doubt that Koulibaly would make united immediately better. He’s a real leader, great in the air, strong in the tackle and quick. He feels tailor-made for Premier League football, although he certainly wouldn’t come cheap.
At the end of the day, United need to stop leaking goals if they hold any aspirations to win trophies this season. Things are looking bleak right now, and title-winning teams are built from the back. It’s all about having a solid defence, and Koulibaly is a genuinely world-class centre-half who’s name should be in the discussion when talking about the best in the business.
