Man United are still interested in acquiring FC Barcelona right-back, Sergino Dest.
Manchester United Football Club have placed their faith in Diogo Dalot to start this season.
The right-back, who has began all four games as first-choice, has often blown hot and cold over the years. Hence why it makes sense that the Red Devils are still actively shopping to bring in someone in that area of the pitch.
Sergino Dest, who currently plies his trade for FC Barcelona, is amongst the names linked with filling that void.
Now, Sport, with the translation from Sport Witness, once again believe United are looking at a move to bring in the USA international.
According to their claim, United are ‘intensifying contacts’ to sign the 21-year-old right-sided defender.
However, this deal isn’t a straight transfer. Rather, the club are hoping to ‘reach an agreement’ on a swap deal involving Aaron Wan-Bissaka, with the Englishman going the other way.
It’s said by Sport that Dest isn’t in Xavi’s plans for the upcoming season, with Barca’s economic issues leading to the club wanting a ‘pure exchange’ deal with United.
Dest isn’t fancied by Barca, Wan-Bissaka isn’t in Ten Hag’s plans, while the pair have similar market values according to Sport. What’s not to like about this situation?
Dest is undoubtedly a better fit for Ten Hag’s way of playing, while he’s also a tad younger than Wan-Bissaka. I’d also assume he’d command less in terms of weekly wage.
I guess it comes down to how badly Barca want Dest off their books. They seemingly see a way to fit Wan-Bissaka into their system. Otherwise, the Catalan club wouldn’t be showing an interest of any kind in the former Crystal Palace man.
