Man United have added centre-back Christian Romero to their list of transfer targets.
As has been evident with the player’s Manchester United have been linked with this summer, the Red Devils have made finding a partner for Harry Maguire as their priority.
Today, a new name has been thrown into the ring; Christian Romero. The story comes from Sky Sports, who state that United are interested in signing the 23-year-old, as they look to add a new centre-back this summer.
The Argentine Romero is currently playing his football for Serie A side Atalanta, while on loan from Juventus.
It’s expected that Atalanta will pay up to £21.5m to sign Romero on a permanent basis this summer, though they’re open to selling him on immediately for a fee of around £34m.
After ensuring Edinson Cavani will remain a Red Devil for at least one more season, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is now prioritising signing a centre-back to bolster that area of the field. After all, neither Victor Lindelof nor Eric Bailly are the most reliable, trustworthy central defenders.
One thing I will say about Romero is this. Juventus have loaned him out for two seasons in a row now, while they’re also seemingly willing to sell him on permanently without little fuss. If he’s not good enough for them, should we be concerned whether he’s good enough for us?
In terms of positives, Romero has played 37 games for an improving Atalanta side. United’s problem with centre-halves, Maguire aside, has been injuries. At least this guy has shown he can stay fit for a prolonged period.
This signing would be somewhat of a gamble but it should be one United are willing to make. At this point, we’re getting desperate and maybe, just maybe, Romero is the answer to our problems back there.
