Man United interest in Jadon Sancho has been well documented, though it’s time for the Red Devils to look at other options, including Bournemouth’s David Brooks.
It felt like it’d be just a matter of time before other attackers were linked with Old Trafford moves, seeing as Sancho rumours have gotten pretty quiet over the last week.
Enter, David Brooks. The Bournemouth man, aged 23, was part of a Cherries side who were relegated last term. However, Brooks’ injury-hit campaign meant he’d only play nine games. Now, though, the Welshman is back fit.
Yesterday, Sport Witness claimed that United are keen on Brooks, with said interest ‘more serious than widely assumed’. Apparently, developments for the £20k-a-week star (Sportrac) ‘could be made quickly’.
Brooks’ talent was on full display during a debut season in which he scored seven goals and made five assists for his teammates. He’s young (23), homegrown and only improving as a footballer.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s signings have all been in a similar mould to Brooks. So far, they’ve all worked, so why change that mantra?
There is no transfer fee mentioned by Sport Witness, though if I had to estimate, he’d probably cost somewhere in the £30-50million range. Obviously, Bournemouth being relegated helps United’s case.
So where would Brooks fit in?
Well, he’s versatile which is always a plus. Brooks can play off either wing, or in the #10 role. It’d give the Baby Faced Assassin ample options going from game-to-game.
Brooks probably wouldn’t start every week, though he’d be more than good enough to slot in when needed. With United playing in four competitions next term, the Wales international would certainly be given plenty of opportunities to play.
For United, I’d expect them to make one final push to sign Sancho before pursuing a deal for alternatives. The 20-time Premier League champions could certainly do worse than Brooks.
