Man United have cooled their interest in Porto forward Evanilson due to injury.
Manchester United Football Club are certainly heading in a positive direction under Erik ten Hag.
The Dutch manager has his side playing some lovely football at the moment, with the squad feeling confident and believing in themselves yet again.
However, new signings are needed to further close the gap on the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal. Thankfully, we have a manager who is always willing to test the waters and try to upgrade.
One man who United were seemingly looking at is FC Porto’s Evanilson. The attacker had a stunning 2021/22 term, scoring 21 goals in 46 games across all competitions. He’s started this season in similar manner.
Sadly, though, Evanilson has suffered a serious knee injury, per Correio da Manhã (Tuesday print edition), with the translation via Sport Witness.
As a result, United’s interest in the emerging 23-year-old (as well as other interested parties), has since ‘cooled’.
Porto had turned down big-money offers for the Brazilian over the summer, while they may be regretting that decision right now.
What we now know is that Evanilson will not be on the move during this January window, while Porto are even concerned about this injury halting a possible sale in the summer.
Again, it’s clear that United are still looking to replace Cristiano Ronaldo in the long-term. Wout Weghorst has done a top job in his opening three games, though he isn’t going to be the permanent solution to this problem.
Evanilson’s talent makes him someone who could fill that void, though now United will have concerns and doubts due to this serious knee injury that could keep him sidelined for many months.
