Man United interest in Kieran Trippier is picking up pace – and quickly…
Just earlier this morning, we covered a story from The Guardian, who claimed that United were considering Trippier as an option to provide some direct competition to Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the right-back slot.
The England international would leave Tottenham Hotspur last summer, making a move to Atletico Madrid. Currently, the Bury-born Trippier is loving life with the La Liga club, who sit atop the table at this point in time.
Now, the usually reliable Jonathan Shrager has confirmed that United interest in the 25-app international star ‘is true’…
United have started with Wan-Bissaka in all-but two games this season. With Diogo Dalot now out on loan at AC Milan, the only recognisable back-up at this point in time is young Brandon Williams. For what it’s worth, I’m a massive fan of the young lad from Harpurhey and I’d be more than happy going forward with him as our back-up option.
However, it looks as though Solskjaer is looking to bring in some more experience, while Trippier would also bring excellent set-piece delivery and crossing into the box. He perfectly showcased that this weekend, picking up two assists in a 2-0 win over Valladolid.
Check out Shrager’s tweet on Man United interest in Trippier here:
I trust Shrager wholeheartedly. He’s usually spot on when it comes to United news and it’s interesting to learn the Reds are keen on Trippier.
On the face of it, this does feel like an underwhelming transfer. However, it could turn out to be a shrewd piece of business. I guess it all comes down to what Trippier himself wants.
After all, Manchester is his home. If the Bury-born Trippier wants to be closer to friends and family, Old Trafford could be the perfect final pitstop of his long and fruitful career.
That’s easier said than done, though. His Spanish dream is in full flow with a La Liga title a real possibility. With that in mind, I’d expect no movement on this transfer until next summer at the very earliest.
