Man United interest in Youri Tielemans ‘growing’

Man United are still weighing up a move to bring in Leicester City midfielder, Youri Tielemans.

There can be no doubt that Erik ten Hag’s number one target this summer has been Frenkie de Jong.

The Dutch midfielder has been on the radar all summer, with the pendulum swinging back and forth almost on a daily basis. Right now, I assume the transfer is more unlikely to happen, given De Jong’s willingness to remain at FC Barcelona.

At the very least, United should be strongly considering other options in that key midfield area. One name that could fit the bill is Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans.

The latest information on Tielemans’ future comes from journalist Ben Jacobs. He says that United’s interest in the midfielder is ‘genuine’ and ‘growing’.

On top of that, Tielemans is ‘far cheaper’ and a ‘less complicated’ option than the aforementioned De Jong. The Belgian has since been placed on Ten Hag’s midfield shortlist.

It’s unclear whether Tielemans himself would like the move to United, as the player indicated he didn’t want to transfer to Old Trafford when Ralf Rangnick was in charge.

If Tielemans could be convinced to make the move to the Theatre of Dreams, it’d be an astute piece of business.

Perhaps the Belgian doesn’t have the reputation that De Jong would bring, nor the familiarity with Ten Hag’s style. Though that can be counteracted by the Premier League experience the Leicester City man has.

The Tielemans transfer fee would also be far more reasonable. You’d imagine around £25-30m would get the deal done as his contract expires next summer. Leicester would either have to let Tielemans leave now for a lower price, or risk losing him for free next summer.

Do you think Youri Tielemans would be a good signing for Man United? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
