Manchester United are a club who have been built upon giving youth a chance. Enter, Willy Kambwala.

Who’s that, I hear you cry? Well, Kambwala is a 15-year-old emerging talent from French Ligue 2 outfit Sochaux.

According to a report from France Football, United, along with Liverpool, are ‘interested’ in the young defender.

Their story claims that the Red Devils ‘recently’ came for Kambwala, with rivals Liverpool ‘also on the move’ for the next big thing to come out of France.

A deal would have to be put on hold until the end of August, though, with Kambwala unable to move until his 16th birthday (August 25th) due to FIFA regulations in regards to minors (GFFN).

Again, this is United doing their utmost to hoover up the next-big-thing in world football. You look at the Hannibal Mejbri addition from last summer and he’s another Frenchman who looks mightily impressive. Who are we to doubt Kambwala’s talents given our good work in the transfer market over the last twelve months?

Yes, we’ve never seen Kambwala play. Heck, I couldn’t even tell you what he looked like, though interest from United (and our rivals down the M62!) tells you everything you need to know about his abilities.

He’d be a player who’d make the move to Old Trafford with the potential of making his first-team debut in a few years as opposed to a few months. Look at the likes of Tahith Chong, who the Red Devils did similar things with, as the likely career trajectory.

The defence is an area which does need further tweaking, mind. Phil Jones is way too injury prone while who knows what’s happening with Marcos Rojo and Chris Smalling. Again, I’d like to reiterate this would be a signing for the future as opposed to the here and now.

Who knows, Willy Kambwala may well be another big addition to an ever-improving United academy setup…
