Manchester United’s squad has too many issues to fix in one transfer window, that much is obvious.
But, in order to stop the rot, big money has to be spent this summer – and on the right players. No longer can United afford to take gambles on the big-name players who become available, that hasn’t exactly work with Alexis Sanchez, and others…
Personally, I think that signing a new midfielder is probably the biggest need. It’s an area of the pitch that has just been so static and poor this year, quite frankly, it has been painful to watch.
Last summer the Red Devils were heavily linked with a move for Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, and according to Calciomercato, that interest is still genuine, although United would face competition for his signature – with Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid also keen. Apparently, Juve was interested but they’ve dropped out of the race for his signature.
With Ander Herrera’s future still uncertain, Milinkovic-Savic would be an excellent replacement. Aged 24, he’s young, hungry and ready to learn and the Serbian would single-handedly improve United’s midfield as soon as he walks through the entrance door.
The Lazio midfielder would’t come cheap, but we’re at that stage where United are going to have to dig deep into their pockets to overhaul this squad. Bringing in Milinkovic-Savic would certainly be a good start.
