Man United are keen on signing Nice defender, Jean-Clair Todibo, this summer.

Manchester United Football Club could look to continue their overhaul with a new centre-back this summer. Rumours suggesting Harry Maguire could be out the door are becoming increasingly popular. The club captain would need replacing.

Erik ten Hag has to find the right player stylistically. Preferably someone young, who can come in and play when Raphael Varane needs a rest. Players galore have already been linked with an Old Trafford switch. Today, another new name is thrown into the ring; Jean-Clair Todibo.

Currently plying his trade for Nice, Todibo has had an excellent season in Ligue 1. Europe’s big boys are starting to take note.

It’s L’Equipe (in French) with the scoop. They state that United are amongst the sides interested in signing the 23-year-old centre-back, though they’ll face stiff competition from Newcastle United and Liverpool.

In terms of fee, £26.5m should be enough to get a deal done, which is pretty cheap in this day and age – particularly for someone who could easily give you close to a decade of service, all being well.

Player profile-wise, this is exactly what United need. Todibo is improving year-on-year. You’d expect he’d only get better working with the aforementioned Varane and Lisandro Martinez on a daily basis.

Although United have other pressing needs, like signing a new striker, the lack of squad depth available has been alarming at times this season. Ten Hag is a smart man. He’ll know this better than anyone. Signing someone like Todibo could be key in the long run, particularly when United could easily find themselves playing 60+ games again next term.

  1. United will buy a centre back, but likely to be a left footed player as cover for Martinez, with Lindelof having his contract extended as cover for Varane. That said, Axel Disasi has been mentioned and he would be an upgrade on Lindelof
