Man United interested in Faitout Maouassa following impressive performances this term: report

Manchester United Football Club were playing better before games were halted due to the COVID-19 outbreak, though the Red Devils still have some work to do.

Credit where it’s due, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a clear plan in place that is working brilliantly. Why change that now?

Acquiring young players has been the order of business for the Baby Faced Assassin and it seems as though another up-and-comer has caught the eye.

The story comes from L’Equipe’s Wednesday print edition, translated excellently via Sport Witness. Apparently, United are interested in the talented 21-year-old full-back, Faitout Maouassa, who currently plies his trade for Rennes in Ligue 1.

After an impressive season, the 21-year-old has established himself as the first-choice left-back, making 32 appearances in all competitions.

Apparently, United have been ‘looking at’ Maouassa, though they are yet to commit to any serious contract negotiations with the young man.

With just one year left on his current deal, a move away looks likely this summer. Hence why around £10.5m (€10-12m) would be enough to get the deal done.

The fee is one a club of United’s stature would have no problem in paying, adding further depth to a left-back slot which is suddenly far more competitive than it was a few months ago.

You look at the emergence of Brandon Williams and the return-to-form of Luke Shaw. Both of whom are playing at an incredibly high level at the moment, and I do wonder that money could be spent better elsewhere…
