Man United interested in free agent Fernando Llorente: report

Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku didn’t feature in any pre-season friendly this summer. It’s fair to say his future remains up in the air.

Well, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could be forced into replacing the Belgium international should he eventually depart from Old Trafford.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, United are interested in 34-year-old free agent Fernando Llorente as a possible replacement. The fact that he’s without a club means the Basque-born forward can actually sign after the August 8th deadline.

There’s no doubt that bringing some experience to the squad would be all-important, but I’m just not sure Llorente is a man who fits the system that Solskjaer is trying to play.

He’s pretty slow, his finishing is hit and miss while Llorente would only continue to deteriorate as his career continues to wind down…

On a free, there is absolutely no risk involved but I’d much prefer to see the minutes given to Mason Greenwood or other United academy graduates.

My honest opinion is that no new players will be signed before tomorrow’s deadline, though Lukaku will likely leave at some point. Llorente would be an underwhelming signing but I do sort of understand the logic behind it…
