Manchester United need squad depth. Their starting line-up has been mightily impressive recently, though further signings are needed if the Red Devils are to challenge on all fronts. Enter, Geoffrey Kondogbia.
With the transfer window set to open in a week’s time, United’s scouts will be working hard. Claims can be made for necessary signings in pretty much any position on the field. However, it’s mostly midfielders being constantly linked with Old Trafford switches.
Today, it’s the turn of Valencia’s Geoffrey Kondogbia. The story comes from Foot Mercato, translated via Sport Witness. Apparently, United are ‘interested’ in the 27-year-old Frenchman.
Furthermore, Foot Mercato explain that the ‘box-to-box’ midfielder ‘wants to leave’ his current club this summer. Kondogbia currently has two years remaining on his current deal in Spain.
So far, Valencia are yet to put a price tag on the Frenchman, though the story claims that the La Liga outfit will not put ‘too many obstacles’ in the way, hinting they’re ready to move in a different direction.
Aged 27, Kondogbia would be an astute signing – but only at the right price. He’s had some injury issues, while his career, on the whole, has also been inconsistent.
Where would Kondogbia fit in?
In the right system with the right players around him, he could make a positive impact. I guess it all depends on what sort of valuation Valencia have in regards to selling him.
It also depends on whether Kondogbia would be at peace with playing a bit-part role. United’s midfield three of Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes and Nemanja Matic feels pretty settled right now.
Factor in the likes of Fred and Scott McTominay waiting in the wings and you struggle to see where his minutes would come from. Maybe in the cup competitions or as an impact sub…?
