Man United have added Lyon defender, Joachim Andersen, to their list of potential transfer targets.
We’ve said it a hundred times. Manchester United are on the hunt for the perfect centre-back partner to Harry Maguire. The Englishman has been consistent, but at the European Championships, he’s shown just how good he can actually be with someone of quality beside him.
The task for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his coaching staff is to identify and then sign that man. Raphael Varane has been linked, as has Joules Kounde and Pau Torres.
Over the last 24 hours, a new name has been thrown into the mix; Joachim Andersen. The centre-back was a late substitute as England took on Denmark on Wednesday night, though the defender actually plies his trade for Lyon in Ligue 1.
Well, according to Foot Mercato, United have added the 25-year-old to their list of potential centre-back signing. The Reds are interested but they won’t have it all their own way, as they face competition from Tottenham Hotspur.
Foot Mercato go on to state that the player is expected to move this summer, following an excellent breakthrough campaign. The fee being cited is around the £25million mark, which is incredibly reasonable for a player of Andersen’s calibre.
What I like about this touted move is Andersen has Premier League experience. It was in England where he made a name for himself, impressing for a pretty poor Fulham team in 2020/21.
There is reason to have doubt, though. If Andersen was that brilliant, surely he’d be starting regularly for Lyon over in France?
Can he really make the jump from being relegated at Craven Cottage to challenging for titles Old Trafford? Personally, I’d like to see United aim their bar a little higher…
