Man United are looking at the possibility of making a move for Wesley Fofana.
Over the summer, it felt like Manchester United’s most pressing need was central defence. Obviously Raphael Varane filled that void nicely, though with just one clean sheet in twenty, it feels like the Reds could dip their toes into that market again.
Eric Bailly and Phil Jones are always injured, while Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof remain consistently inconsistent, further adding reason for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to look to bolster his defence some more.
Enter, Wesley Fofana. United have made their move to sign a Leicester City defender before and seemingly, they’re looking to do so again.
According to But! Football Club, United are ‘very hot’ on signing the 20-year-old.
Apparently, it’s claimed that Fofana has been a transfer ‘priority’ for the Reds since last spring. Furthermore, United could make their move in the winter window – but only if Newcastle United, who are also interested, decide to make their move.
United seemingly don’t want to miss out on Fofana, who has improved greatly since moving to the Premier League from Saint Etienne last year.
The young centre-half is already capped by Les Bleus at U21 level, too, further highlighting just how capable this man is.
As per usual, dealing with Leicester City will not be easy or cheap. Fofana has walked straight into their team and made a brilliant impression. They’ll want handsome compensation if they’re going to lose such a key part of their side.
This move would make sense for United if we’re thinking long-term, though I’m not sure we’re that desperate that we should be spending big bucks on a central defender in the mid-season window.
