Man United have seemingly added Nicolas Tagliafico to their list of potential transfer targets.
There’s no denying that the start of this summer transfer window has been nothing but a disappointment for Manchester United Football Club.
The Old Trafford outfit are yet to make their first summer signing, highlighting just what a dire situation they find themselves in. Gone are the days when United could buy any player they want, without the footballer in question thinking twice.
With Erik ten Hag having so many holes to fill in the squad, it makes sense that he’s trying to surround himself with familiarity.
Loads of Ajax players have been linked with potential switches to United, and over the last 24 hours, the Daily Mail’s Simon Jones has threw another into the mix; Nicolas Tagliafico.
Apparently, United are interested in the 29-year-old full-back, along with Antony and Lisandro Martinez.
What’s interesting is that the Daily Mail believe United will need to sell some fringe players first, in order to make space and/or raise funds to finance these transfers.
Tagliafico absolutely stinks of a comfort signing. Ten Hag knows what the Argentine will offer, but by no means would he start every single week here at the Theatre of Dreams.
To me, this shows that Ten Hag isn’t feeling fully comfortable with either Luke Shaw or Alex Telles. It could also mean one of these guys could be sold during the current transfer window.
Telles has underwhelmed if we’re being honest, though I’m not sure Tagliafico is that much up an upgrade at the current point in time.
I’d personally prefer the club to focus on game-changing signings like Frenkie de Jong. We need guys who can walk straight into our starting line-up from day one.
