Manchester United are in need of a big summer transfer window. The task at hand for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can only be described as monumental.
At first, it seems as though the Baby Faced Assassin was trying to take the Red devils back to their core by signing young, predominantly British players. Over time, though, links towards larger names have beginning to creep into the papers…
In today’s edition of Mundo Deportivo, translated brilliantly by Sport Witness, it is being claimed that FC Barcelona star Philippe Coutinho has been deemed as ‘transferable’ as they look to raise funds for new players.
Why’s that relevant, you ask? Well, the same report says that United are ‘interested’ in the 26-year-old attacker, while his agent has already been made an offer with ‘weight’ from the Red Devils…
The article from Mundo Deportivo goes on to state that United have a reduced chance at landing the Brazil international due to the lack of Champions League football on offer. Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea are other clubs mentioned, they’ll both be playing in Europe’s premier competition next term…
As for the whole football politics side of things, this isn’t a move I’d feel wholly comfortable with United making. Coutinho has strong Liverpool ties, that’s just something we can just forget about.
Would he want to come for that reason? Would United fans be happy with him at their club? That’s even before you get to the fact that the Reds have struggled massively when it comes to signing marquee names over the last few seasons – and I can guarantee that Coutinho wouldn’t be cheap, either. To me, this feels like another big-name flop waiting to happen.
