Man United are showing an interest in signing RB Leipzig midfielder, Dani Olmo.

There can be no doubt that slowly but surely, this squad is becoming more familiar with the Erik ten Hag style of play.

To speed up that process, signings are needed. Players who fit more in line with the Dutchman’s philosophy can accelerate that process.

With the January transfer window looming, the transfer rumours are starting to ramp up. The latest name to be thrown into the mix? Dani Olmo.

The RB Leipzig man has been a vital cog in their machine for three-and-a-half seasons. However, he has struggled this season following injury.

Fichajes, via Caughtoffside, believe his drop in form could see the Spaniard sold by RB Leipzig. His contract currently expires in 2024, while Olmo will still likely feature for Spain at the upcoming World Cup.

Fichajes claim that a whole host of sides are keen on signing the 24-year-old, should he be made available for transfer. United are amongst those clubs, though they’ll face competition from the likes of FC Barcelona and Manchester City. Those names alone should tell you how talented he is.

OTF’s verdict

Olmo, predominantly an attacking midfielder, can also play out wide. United still need further quality in that area of the pitch, so I can see why this move is appealing to Ten Hag.

I guess a lot rides on Donny van de Beek. If the Dutchman can rediscover his best, the need to bring in an attacking midfielder will vanish. Obviously, United still have Bruno Fernandes in that position, too.

There’s no doubting Olmo’s ability. He’d bring an awful lot to the table. This also feels like a move that would have to wait until the summer, rather than a deal that could go through in January.
