Manchester United’s defence has certainly improved since last term, though as one hole has been fixed, another two have appeared…
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s striker issues are well documented. The decision to thin out the squad and let both Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez leave hurts, though perhaps a problem that is going under the radar is the lack of creativity in United’s midfield…
Paul Pogba aside, there’s very little coming from that unit, hence why the Reds are continuing to be linked with midfielders. The latest name to be thrown into the ring is that of Borussia Monchengladbach’s Denis Zakaria…
The story comes from Bild, who state that United are interested in signing the talented 22-year-old midfielder, though they’ll face stiff competition as they’re not the only interested party.
Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and Tottenham Hotspur are all keen, while all can offer Champions League football which gives us a considerable disadvantage.
In terms of playing style, Zakaria is more defensive-minded than an offensive driving force, though he’s a player who can cover every blade of grass and do the dirty work – before laying the ball off to the more creative players in the team.
The 22-year-old certainly won’t come cheap but United need bodies in a key area of the field. Will the move happen in January? Who knows, but that’s probably our best chance.
