Man United are still keen on signing FC Barcelona midfielder, Frenkie de Jong.
When you hire a new manager, you do so knowing that new ideas and tactics may well lead to money having to be spent on the squad.
Ralf Rangnick’s style is completely different to any previous Manchester United manager, though the early signs from what this current crop of players will offer are positive.
That said, the German, who is staying on in a consultancy role after this six-month period, is already looking for ways to improve this side. That’s according to El Nacional, with the translation coming via the MEN live blog.
Apparently, United are interested in signing the 24-year-old midfielder, Frenkie de Jong, with the Reds willing to table a £47million offer to acquire the Dutchman.
It’s stated that the midfield position is high on United’s list of priorities, which obviously makes sense given Paul Pogba’s contract situation at this moment in time.
De Jong was part of that Ajax side that made it to the Champions League semi-final a couple of seasons ago, and it goes without saying, he’s going to be hot property if available.
At this moment, I wonder why Barca would even consider letting a top-drawer player leave. De Jong has been influential for the Catalan outfit so surely they’d want to keep him?
That said, there’s no such thing as a guarantee in football. This would still be a risk for United, just look at how Donny van de Beek‘s Reds career has started. Though perhaps linking up with his fellow Dutchman would be a massive help for United’s number 34.
As for De Jong, I wouldn’t expect any movement on this transfer in January. We’d definitely be looking at a summer move here.
