Man United interested in signing Ibrahim Sangare

Man United have identified Ibrahim Sangare as a possible transfer target this summer.

Erik ten Hag is yet to officially make his first signing as Manchester United manager, despite links galore to several players in multiple positions.

Where the Red Devils make their first move in terms of position is anyone’s guess, given the amount of holes within the squad right now.

Personally, I’d love United to go out there and bring in a top-class defensive midfielder. Let’s be honest, every elite side has one, as it’s a position that holds the rest of the team together.

United haven’t been linked to many true defensive midfielders this summer, though that has changed over the last 24 hours. Enter, Ibrahim Sangare.

The story comes from Sky Sports News, who state that United are ‘interested’ in signing the 24-year-old. Chelsea are also keen.

Sangare, who currently plies his trade for PSV Eindhoven over in the Netherlands, has his ‘heart set’ on moving to England. On top of that, he’s ‘convinced’ he will be a Premier League player in 2022/23.

The holding midfielder, a fully-fledged Ivory Coast international, has a release clause of just under £30million in his current contract. In the modern-day game, that’s a very affordable figure.

Sangare played 49 times for PSV over the last nine months, with most of those displays coming in that holding midfield role. His Eredivisie stats certainly stand out, making more interceptions than any other player in that league, while also ranking second for both total tackles and possession won.

Without having watched Sangare, his playing style seems to be exactly what this United side needs. The question is, can the midfielder adapt to life in England and play like we’d need him to? That’s the million-dollar question…

Personally, I believe it’s worth the gamble. Ten Hag has no doubt watched Sangare pretty frequently over the last twelve months, even battling against him a few times. We have to put trust in our manager and let him spend money exactly how he wants.
